5. INTRODUCTION Praise and gratitude we pray to the presence of Allah SWT for His power and permission. Module 3 deepening SD science material can be completed properly, methodically and effectively without significant obstacles. Module 3 was developed to improve PPG participants’ abilities in preparing lesson plans, materials, learning media, worksheets, and assessment tools for use in elementary school learning. Based on these objectives, Module 3 develops into four learning activities: Activity 4: Earth and Space Thank you to the various stakeholders who have helped complete Module 3. Learning assessment can finally be carried out in schools and make every effort possible to improve the quality of education, especially in schools , and in the country in general. 10 A. Introduction 1. Brief Description If we want to find answers to scientific problems in the environment, we need a step known as the scientific method. Therefore, PPG participants must understand the concept of the scientific method and be able to analyze the application of the steps of the scientific method in learning and everyday life. On this occasion, PPG participants were also invited to study the most important elements that make up everything observable in the Universe. In other words, matter and its changes. and the events associated with it. The existence of materials/materials/objects is not new to the ears of teachers. Teaching materials are very closely related to our lives and the lives of our students. The various appearances of matter change from one form to another, from one state to another, from one phase to another. This happens because of the role of another factor – energy. 2. Relevance of learning activities Material I is intended to assist PPG participants in teaching elementary school level students’ curiosity about natural elements observed in material form, their changes, and various natural phenomena related to nature Presented to help develop minds . Develop a scientific (scientific) mindset. This is in line with the nature of natural science which treats natural phenomena and substances in a systematic, orderly, generally accepted manner, and takes the form of a collection of observations and experiments. So, science is not just a collection of objects and living things, but how they work, how they think, and how they solve problems. 2

11 3. Learning Guide The learning objective of Learning Activity I is to help PPG participants understand the concept of the scientific method, scientific method procedures, and the application of scientific method procedures in learning. Everyday life, the concept of matter and its changes, analytes in everyday life (physics and chemistry), ways of separating matter, classification of matter and matter particles, properties of matter. The family planning learning process in this module emphasizes the development of learning independence as one of the characteristics of the PPG program learning process. To help PPG participants learn Activity I, we recommend paying attention to the following study guide. Understand each component of the module from the first to the last. b. read, interpret, and understand the main and additional material; c. Read various other learning resources related to the material being studied. d. Discuss reading results in discussion forums via online features with other participants and instructors. e. Perform each task individually and formative tests via online functionality. f. Applying and reflecting on the knowledge gained from the learning process into everyday learning practices. g. If you experience problems, please contact your instructor through the online facilities provided. 3

13 B. CORE 1. LEARNING OUTCOMES Mastery of theory and application includes content in science scientific methods, changes in matter, force and energy, biology and life processes, as well as earth and outer space. 2. Obtain scientific method learning sub-achievement, steps of the scientific method, and its application to learning in elementary schools b. The scientific method of mastering teaching materials and their modifications and their application in learning in elementary schools, the application of the steps of the scientific method in learning and everyday life, the concept of matter and its changes, material in everyday life (physics and chemistry), methods of separating substances, classification of substances and particles of substances and properties of substances. 4. Material Explanation of the Scientific Method Although maybe everyone does not realize it when facing problems in learning or in everyday life, the emergence of scientific knowledge construction is based on experiments that require common sense and logical reasoning. Therefore, the process requires a standard method in its implementation and uses the scientific method. Five

When studying science with a 14-process approach, the next step is experimentation. Experiments are certain procedural activities that are usually carried out by a scientist for the purpose of solving a problem or finding an answer to a problem. But is it the same way scientists and we solve problems? There are several indicators/instructions for problem solving in science learning. What is this indicator? Some of the indicators used to solve problems are also indicators used to apply the scientific method. For more details, let’s look at the following example: Suppose we want to know the effect of composting on chilies. Changes in the conditions studied were the growth of chilies, namely changes in plant height and leaf size compared to chilies that were not fertilized. Based on the experiment, what is the correct formulation of the problem? Yes, is there any effect of compost on the growth of chilies? This is the first indicator of the steps of the scientific method. Then what is the second step that you should do? Yes, I found a hypothesis. Up to the stage of communicating research results. This is a conceptual illustration of applying the scientific method to solve a problem. The scientific method is a scientific method that uses scientific and rational procedures to clarify problems that arise in learning activities and in everyday life. The scientific method can also be used to ensure that the research carried out is based on scientific principles, so that the results can also be scientifically justified. 6

15 Let’s examine the effect of light on the growth of mung bean seeds 1) Formulate the problem: How does light affect the growth of mung bean seeds? affect the growth of green bean seeds. There are properties. Green beans that are exposed to light grow faster than those that are not exposed to light. 3) Determining the research variables a) Dependent variable: Mung bean morphology b) Independent variable: Sunlight c) Control variable: Mung bean seeds planted naturally 4) Designing work/experiment procedures a) Tools and materials Conducting the experiment: (1 ) 2 plastic bags of the same size (2) 10 seeds of the same type and size soaked overnight (3) water (4) soil (5) stationery and ruler 7

16 Through experimental activities, we can find answers to questions in the formulation of the problem. what are you going to do? Please pay attention to the following steps. b) How it works: (1) Fill polybag 1 with soil and store 5 red bean seeds in an open place (2) Fill polybag 2 with soil and store 5 red bean seeds in a closed place (with a cover). (3) watering the green beans every day, (4) observing and measuring the growth of the green beans every day for a week, and (5) recording the results.
