Immaku.com – Qualcomm has just released its newest high-performance chipset called Snapdragon 888. This chipset is the successor to the Snapdragon 865 SoC series that was released last year. Then what are the advantages of this latest Qualcomm chipset? Here’s the summary.

Snapdragon 888 is an Octa-Core chipset made with 5nm fabrication. This chipset is composed of one ARM Cortex-X1 with a clock speed of 2.84 GHz, three Cortex-A78 with a clock speed of 2.4 GHz, and four low-power Cortex-A55 CPUs with a speed of 1.8 GHz.

Performance improvements

Compared to its predecessor (SD865), Snapdragon 888 promises a performance increase of up to 25%. The tandem Adreno 660 GPU is also said to have increased by up to 35% compared to the previous generation. Interestingly again, the latest chipset from Qualcomm it is said to support RAM up to 16 GB capacity with LPPDR5 3,200 MHz type, as well as UFS 3.1 type internal storage.

For AI processing, Snapdragon 888 is supported using the 6th generation Qualcomm engine with the latest Hexagon 780 DSP. Qualcomm says, the switch accelerator on the SD888 is now 50% more powerful, and the tensor accelerator has increased by up to 200% over the previous generation. The vector processing unit on this chipset also presents new technology, namely by combining it with the Hexagon 780 DSP with support for 16x shared AI memory. Therefore, Qualcomm calls this chipset a unified AI accelerator architecture.

According to Qualcomm, Hexagon 780 DSP offers AI performance up to 26 TOPS. As well as presenting a performance increase of up to 3 times per watt. Plus the support of the 2nd generation of low-power Sensing Hub which is useful for assisting AI processes in handling various system background tasks.

Super fast connection

The Snapdragon X60 5G modem promises peak download speeds of up to 7.5 Gbps, and peak upload speeds of 3 Gbps on 5G networks. The modem also supports the latest mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks, SA/NSA 5G networks, FDD and TDD networks. Also includes support for Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.2, GPS systems Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, dual-frequency GNSS, NavIC, NavIC enabled, GPS, GNSS, QZSS, and SBAS.

Abundant camera features

For photo and videography purposes, the Snapdragon 888 will be powered by the Qualcomm Spectra 580 ISP engine which is capable of recording from three different sources simultaneously using the 4K HDR format. This machine supports single camera configurations with a resolution of 200MP, dual cameras up to 64MP, and three cameras with a maximum resolution of 28MP. The features offered are also very complete, such as photos with a color depth of up to 10 bits, being able to take 120 images with a 12MP resolution in 1 second, to recording videos in 4K 120 fps format.

Phones powered by the SD888 will support a maximum screen resolution of 4K 60Hz, and Quad HD+ resolution at 144Hz. For gaming purposes, Qualcomm also offers a technology called Snapdragon Elite Gaming with the Game Quick Touch feature which can reduce touch response latency. Plus a feature called Variable Rate Shading (VRS) which can improve game rendering by up to 30 percent.
